Ssamjang is a korean spicy paste/sauce. i really like it on rice, and it's really simple to make. it's also less spicy than the color makes it look. the ingredients should also not be too hard to find, either at amazon, or preferably at your local asian/world supermarket
to prepare ssamjang, simply put all these ingredients on a bowl, and mix until the color and texture is uniform:
4 tbsp doenjang (Korean soybean paste) 2 Tbsp toasted sesame oil 1 Tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste) 1 Tbsp honey 1/2 tsp minced/powdered garlic
you can and should add a bit of water until it's easily mixable
that's it!
if you prefer, you can blend the ingredients together, but who has time and energy to clean a blender/food processor? mixing by hand with a spoon is more than enough
this recipe is pretty flexible, you can change the amounts of gochujang and honey to tweak the spiciness and sweetness to fit your needs. this is just what i've found works best for me
